Events

Some things seem to happen year on year, and here's just two of them.

Dr Bike

Every year we hold a Dr Bike event, where we offer a FREE check of your cycle to make it ready and safe to take on the road. The emphasis is on safety and we give people a check sheet to take away and keep.

Here's a couple of pics from last year...

The Annual Mad Hatters' Ride

Cycle path

In May 1998 Guildford council commemorated 100 years since the death of Lewis Carroll, who used to live in Guildford, and who was the author of 'Alice Through The Looking Glass' and other such classics. Godalming Cycle Campaign decided to help them along a little bit with our "Mad Hatters' Ride", where over thirty people wearing crazy hats gently perambulated - on cycles of course - from Godalming to the meadows at Shalford Park, just south of Guildford centre. We carried EVERYTHING to have a picnic on pedal driven vehicles and had a fun time. We encouraged families of all ages by choosing quiet roads and paths, and went at the pace of the slowest person.

We did the same last year...for the NINTH time! We invited everybody to come along to Crown Court, or to meet us part way at the Nursery Road car park in Broadwater Park with their cycle, bring something tasty to eat for a picnic, and we'll provide the hot and cold drinks, cups, plates, gas ring, water, spanners, tea spoons - you get the idea.

Did you know - people who made hats frequently suffered from personality problems due to the mercury that used to be part of the hat binding causing poisoning - hence the expression "Mad as a Hatter".

Here's the route for the Godalming to Guildford path, which takes you past Shalford Park.
